I hope you had a good week!  Last weekend I had my father and family in town, so I was not able to post. I wanted to make sure I got in ALL the quality time in. 🙂 Our next chakra focuses on our intuition. So we’re moving on up from the throat chakra to our Third Eye Chakra

Third Eye Chakra

  • Sanskrit Name:  Ajna
  • Location:  Between the brows
  • Color:  Violet
  • Element:  Light 
  • Sound/Mantra:  AUM/OM 
  • Lotus Petals:  2 

Our sixth chakra governs our intuition, imagination, and psychic perception. It rules the unconscious, transcends time, and allows us to see our inner and outer world. The third eye chakra controls our pituitary gland, forehead, temples, and the carotid plexus. The pituitary gland is a pea-sized body attached to the base of the brain and is the major endocrine gland. It is responsible for controlling the growth, development, and function of the other endocrine glands. This includes the adrenals, thyroid, ovaries, and testes. The carotid plexus is a network of intersecting sympathetic nerves which run parallel to the carotid artery into the head.

To identify if you’re experiencing a third eye chakra blockage, there are a few questions you can ask yourself: 

  • Am I having difficulty focusing in life?
  • Am I having any headaches, sinus issues, vision, or hearing problems?
  • Am I having problems sleeping, concentrating, or seeing the big picture?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, chances are, you are experiencing an imbalance or blockage of your Third Eye Chakra.

When your Ajna is balanced, you may feel you have clear thoughts and vision, you’re imaginative, intuitive, and can easily see beyond the physical world. Once opened, it can help you receive clearer, intuitive messages, and visions. It is also linked to clairvoyance, self-reflection, and mindfulness. You could feel like your memory is good and your perceptions are accurate. The ability to visualize is amplified and your imagination is expanded to allow yourself to project your imaginations into the outer world.

When your Third Eye Chakra is blocked you can feel like you have a lack of imagination, distorted vision, issues concentrating, or clouded intuition. You could feel trapped in the daily grind, not able to see the bigger picture, delusional, and not able to establish a vision for your future. Some people have experienced issues with hallucinations, illusions, obsessions, difficulty concentrating, or nightmares if their Third Eye Chakra is overactive. Blockages can make you feel you can’t focus and you could be detaching yourself from others. You could also be suffering from headaches, sinus issues, and vision or hearing problems. Blockage of your Third Eye Chakra can really affect your sleeping and waking life.

Since this chakra is so important to intuition, it plays a big role in our view of the future and connection to a higher power. There is a chance that we may have, or are currently experiencing a block or imbalance with this chakra. Here are some simple tips on how to balance your Third Eye Chakra: 

  • Third eye opening yoga poses – Forehead to knee, puppy pose, humble warrior, or child’s pose are all great to help open up our third eye and activate this chakra.
  • Pay attention to your dreams – while dreams can be confusing, disorienting, wonderful, and terrifying, sometimes all at the same time, I wouldn’t suggest shrugging them off. Looking into your dreams can help with opening your third eye. You may want to start a dream journal to write them down as soon as you wake up. Pay attention, remember, and listen. There may be a message waiting for you.
  • Meditation – meditation is a great way that can help with opening your third eye. You can use an app or practice mindfulness meditation on your own. While you meditate, you can focus your attention on the area between the brows and simply observe what images or thoughts arise. You can also incorporate using crystals by placing one on your third eye while laying down during your meditation. Anything in the purple family would work such as amethyst, lapis lazuli, blue or purple sapphire, purple violet tourmaline, or rhodonite.
  • Try tapping – some people have used tapping to help cope with stress and anxiety. The practice is also a great strategy for opening the third eye. If you’re not sure what tapping is, it is exactly what you’d think it might be, tapping, but with intention. Try gently tapping the forehead where the third eye is. You can activate your pineal and pituitary glands by sending light waves of vibration with the tapping technique.
  • See violet – wear violet or have violet or purple items nearby. You can also do a little breathwork and meditation with visualizing violet. You can imagine a beautiful violet light shining between your brows with each breath you take. 
  • Eat purple – eat purple foods such as purple grapes, eggplant, plums or purple kale, cabbage, or sweet potatoes. Blueberries and cacao are other foods associated with the Third Eye Chakra.
  • Repeat positive affirmations – choose one of these healing affirmations that resonate with you to use in your daily life.  These affirmations can help break old patterns and direct our behaviors in a new, positive direction. 
  • I allow myself to truly see my inner and outer world.
  • I trust myself, I am connected to the Universe.
  • My thoughts are calm and peaceful.
  • I trust my intuition. All the answers I need are inside of me.
  • I have unlimited possibilities.
  • I have a healthy and creative mind.
  • I seek to understand and learn from my experiences.
  • I forgive the past and learn what was there to learn.
  • I am open to inspiration and bliss.
  • I am connected to my true path and purpose.
  • I am connected to the wisdom of the Universe.
